FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How buying, leasing and offers work, and what happens after you pay.
Buying a domain
What are the advantages of buying a domain directly?
There's no middleman taking a commission, so the price you see is the price you pay, with no added markup.
How do I pay?
We accept all major credit cards through Stripe for payments up to US$5,000. For larger amounts, you can pay by ACH or wire transfer to our US bank account, or through Escrow.com. You'll receive a full invoice by email, and the transfer starts within one business day.
Is my payment protected?
Card payments are processed securely by Stripe, and we start the transfer as soon as your payment clears. For larger purchases you can use Escrow.com, which holds the funds until the domain is in your account. If you'd like to use Escrow.com, get in touch through the Contact page and we'll set it up. Escrow.com's fees are paid in full by the buyer.
Are there any extra fees?
Paying by card through Stripe costs you nothing extra. If you choose Escrow.com, you pay its fees in full. After the transfer you'll pay your own registrar's normal yearly renewal fee.
Lease to own
How does lease to own work?
- Choose your term, from 3 to 12 months. The Buy now price is split into equal monthly payments, with no leasing fee.
- Make your first payment. It's authorised on your card, but not charged yet.
- We email you a lease agreement setting out the terms, for you to sign electronically.
- Once you've signed, we take the first payment, then bill you automatically each month.
- When the term ends and the balance is paid in full, or sooner if you choose to pay it off early, we transfer the domain to the registrar of your choice.
If the domain's registration renewal falls due during your lease, its cost is added on top. It's shown on the domain's Lease to own tab and in your agreement.
Who controls the domain while I'm leasing?
You do, day to day. You'll manage the domain's DNS through a shared Cloudflare DNS manager, so you can point it at your website, email and anything else. We keep ownership until the balance is paid in full. Then we push the domain to the registrar of your choice, and you can use whichever DNS provider you like.
Can I pay it off early?
Yes. Pay the remaining balance at any time. Once the balance is cleared in full, the domain will be transferred to your registrar of choice.
What if I miss a payment?
You have a 14-day grace period. After that the lease ends, the domain returns to us and payments already made are not refunded.
Making an offer
How quickly will I hear back?
Usually within 2 business days. We'll accept, decline or come back with a counter-offer by email.
Is there a minimum offer?
Offers that are too far below the Buy Now price can't be considered, and the form will ask you to raise yours. Serious offers close to the Buy Now price get the fastest answer.
Transfer and ownership
How long does the transfer take?
Most transfers complete within 1–3 days of payment. If you also use Porkbun, our registrar, it can be a simple account-to-account push the same day.
Do I need my own registrar account?
Yes, any registrar that supports the extension works. If you don't have one yet, we'll help you set one up.
What do .app domains need to work?
Browsers only load .app sites over HTTPS, so your website needs an SSL certificate. Most hosts provide one free.
Still have a question?
We usually reply within 1 business day.
